Windows PCs (no numeric keypad)

General Instructions

To create accents on a PC without a numeric keypad, you will need to setup the US-International Keyboard. Instructions on how to do so are here. Once you do this, follow the instructions below to reproduce an accented character.

To illustrate how accents may be produced on your PC, let us trace through an example of how to produce the character, à.

  1. Look up the desired character in the table below.
  2. Note the key sequence that is neccessary to produce that character.
  3. Follow the model listed here for producing the à character, using that key sequence instead. In this case, to produce à, one must click and then click . After letting go, the letter à should appear.
  4. In cases where you see
    +
    press and the next key at the same time. Then press the character you want to accent.
NOTE: When you want to use characters like an apostrophe ('), you will need to click the apostrophe key twice to deactivate the US-International Keyboard.
